Hockey Night Highlight/Skill of the Week! August 31st

Patrick Roy
He has been retired for a while, but when he retired he with good reason retired a man known as being great at the game. Possibly the Greatest?
He is a goaltender if any that a lot of goalies today(Dan Foreman) look to, in order to develop a solid style for playing goal.

Steve Yzerman Tribute is the Highlight of August 24th

Last week I posted a note saying that from here on until Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner returns, I will post one video every Thursday in rememberance of Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner. This week we have the tribute to true leadership, Steve Yzerman.

Steve Yzerman was born on May 9, 1965 in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. He played his minor hockey with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 1983 as their first round pick, fourth overall. Yzerman made his NHL debut as an eighteen year old in the 1983-84 season with the Red Wings. He finished with an impressive 39 goals and 48 assists for 87 points and was second in Calder tropphy voting. The following seasons saw Yzerman continue to build on his spectacular rookie season and in 1986 at age 21 he became the youngest captain in Detroit Red Wings history. This added pressure would probably hamper the performace of many athletes, but that was far from the case with Yzerman. Even as the Red Wings were at best a mediocre team, Steve put together a string of six consecutive 100+ point seasons, including an incredible 155 points notched in the 1988-89 regular season.

Starting in the early 1990s the Detroit Red Wings began to turn the corner and Yzerman was upto the task, providing much needed leadership. In 1997 he led the Red Wings to their first Stanley Cup championship since the 1955 season. Yzerman and the Red Wings added another Stanley Cup victory the very next season and he won the Conn Smythe trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. The Wings dynasty would continue to dominate as they won their third Cup in 2002. Even though Yzerman missed most of the 2002 regular season with a knee injury, he returned for his 20th NHL season in 2003. Steve Yzerman has also represented Canada in the World Junior Championships, Canada Cups and the Olympics. After the 2004 lockout, Yzerman decided to come back with the Red Wings and announced his retirement at the end of the 2005-06 season.

Trophies
Conn Smythe Trophy - 1 (1989)
Lester B. Pearson Trophy - 1 (1998)
Frank J. Selke Trophy - 1 (2000)

Championships
Stanley Cup - 3 (1997, 1998, 2002)

He was truly no doubt in my mind a great of the game, a leader, and by leader I mean probably the greatest leader to ever lead a team on and off the ice. He is the longest reigning Captain in NHL History and he is retired.
God Bless! Steve Yzerman, the greatest Captain to ever play Hockey

Coach's Corner with Don Cherry

This week's guest was Ben Foreman!!!

Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner Finale de 3 Stars Pepsi....(A French person did not make this post)

The Dianamic Duo of the Evening

Face of Fear
In English, Your Pepsi 3 Stars of the Game!

1. Adam Hanson 4 Games Played, 8(13)Goals,3(6)Assists, 11(19) Points

Adam played a hoopla! of a season and he has the honor of being picked as the final 1st star of the year, and he worked his way up quick, only playing a measily 4 games and posting some pretty big numbers. He pays assidious time playing and watching Hockey and you can tell. Assidious by the way is Dan's word of the Day for August 13th.

2. Christian Haines 11 Games Played, 2(10)Goals, 8(18) Assists
10(28)Points,0(38)Penalty Minutes

Well What can we say about Christian, enough said, last week I would say his leadership was evident in the game, but for tonight he not only was a star for his points, but also for his heart. I don't like to brag to much about his play, but tonight he dove twice and took a slapshot hitting Dan in the butt to help his team to a victory.

3. Dan Foreman 8 Games Played, 61(225) Saves, 6(23)

Dan on this night had stopped Murray Spencer the point leader at least 3 times blind in his tracks on this night. Also I remember one occasion when Christian and Darrell were up in the zone and they organized a triangle trap in the offensive zones and he stopped about 6 shots in a row there, keeping the ball from the inside webbing of the net. Altogether excellent night for both goalies, especially game two, but tonight it was either Murray or Dan for 3rd star and I think Dan cut the cheese.....or maybe not, maybe he takes the cheese, but no difference.

These were your Final Pepsi 3 Stars of the Game for the year 2006, so mark it now on your calendar May 2007 when Spiderman hits theatres and Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner hits the stage once again!

Now For Your Pepsi 3 Stars Of The Game

The Mur-Man Matches the Hype Again!

This was probably the hardest night ever for picking the Pepsi 3 Stars. It seems like everyone was firing on all cylinders, and if they weren’t contributing Offensively they were definetly contributing defensively. I really wish that there was a point system to distribute points to a really defensive player, but if you were one of those blocking shocks on August. 3rd and you never got a star of the game, pat yourself on the back for me, you deserve it!
Now your Pepsi 3 Stars:

1. Murray Spencer 6 Games Played, 3(12) Goals, 6(21) Assists, 9(33) Points

2. Adam Hanson 2 Games Played, 5 Goals, 3 Assists, 8 Points

3. Brad Rogers 7 Games Played, 3(11) Goals, 5(15) Assists,
8(26) Points, 2(6) Penalty Minutes

You guys really, really, really made it difficult to put up this post this week. I am telling you though that if you have never been out to this, come out, you missed one intense evening on August 3rd 2006. Do I have an AMEN! It was extreme, it was non-stop action and everyone was playing for the fun, fellowship, and the win.
The younsters are promoted this week with their first victory, which was in Overtime and they are on the winning trail with the last win of the night. So now they have earned their Stars and are deserving of being called Young Stars. Although, just a challenge for next week to the Young Stars. With your win on Thursday night, the Old Stars run a record of 10-0-0-1 on the Summer, can you give them their first regulation loss?

At that I am going to name three honorary “Darrell” Unofficial “Stars” of the Game

1. Jordan Thomas 4 Games Played, 4(5) Goals, 2(3) Assists,
6(8) Points

Everyone will probably agree that if you can get the Overtime Winner in the first win for a young team and you block shots and stop at nothing to put the ball in the net, you deserve something here, and he got past the best defense on the Old Stars (Darrell Haines) Just kidding, but anywho, he is My first honorary pick.

2 & 3. Ashlee Albright & Dan Foreman

Ashlee Albright: 66 Saves, 16 Goals Allowed
Dan Foreman: 76 Saves, 8 Goals Allowed

Both goaltenders played their hearts out and are neck and neck for goaltender of the Summer, and I am telling you they both have put their best into helping their teams out. In Game one Ashlee Albright was shelled with an intense amount of shots and had what seemed to be no defense at all from the Youngsters. Although the YoungStars decided to show up in Game 2, although Dan Foreman in Game 2 was shelled with shots, but the defense was there helping clear the ball at most occasions, taking us to the second Overtime of the Summer.

Who was Key to victory in the first Win for the YoungStars on Thursday August 3rd?

Forever Young!!!

Dan and Christian Shaking on a Deal

Foreman Feeling Forever Young!

Dan Foreman an newly wed, growing up here in the Burtt’s Corner community and astonishing crowds everywhere Thursday evening at Hockey Night In Burtt’s Corner.
This was a big night for Foreman, as he not only led the 1-9 YoungStars to their first victory in an Overtime Victory, but he also pulled through with a great evening, improving all of his stats, and helping in accomplishing what seemed to be impossible.

76(164) Saves, 8(17) Goals Against, 6 Games Played, 5 wins, 1 loss

Dan Foreman seems to be one of those goalies that both teams have looked to for victories along side. But with about 2 weeks of Hockey Night In Burtt’s Corner left with August 13th being a week off, will Dan be able to handle the hype and continue his success behind the pipes. Big things happening at the Corner, but who will Dan sign with in the weeks ahead?

Why Is Today Special?

Why is Today Special?

Well if you know the answer to why today is special, then I guess I don't need to tell you. But if you are unaware or lost walking off into the woods in some distant far off area, then I guess I will tell you, but you will have to find your own way out of the woods.

The reason that today is Special, so to speak is that from This Week on until Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner meets for the last time, we will have a weekly blogger Poll on different topics of discussion.
